The team discovered the complex relationship between the W.R. foam core’s density and the resulting weight and softness of the dolls. Softer foam cores were excessively compressed by the heavier silicone/TPE compromising the desired weight reduction. Conversely, harder foam cores resulted in lighter dolls but sacrificed softness. This dilemma underscored the challenges inherent in the W.R. 3.0 technology, propelling Starpery to seek a more refined solution.

Innovative Approaches and Breakthroughs

In their quest for improvement, the W.R. Team at Starpery, operating independently from the main production facility, dedicated themselves to rigorous research and development. Through a series of innovative experiments, including altering mold positions, employing rotary pouring techniques, and exploring drip irrigation methods, the team ventured to find an optimal process that would not compromise on weight or softness. Despite numerous trials and facing skepticism, the team’s perseverance was fueled by the company’s leadership, encouraging them to push forward.

The breakthrough came with a novel approach: separating the mold and modifying the pouring sequence of silicone/TPE materials. This method, initially tested on the 172 body mold, produced a lighter and softer doll, albeit with challenges such as additional mold lines and occasional material shortages. These issues were indicative of the complex balance between innovation and production realities.

Refining the Process

Learning from these experiences, the W.R. Team identified key improvements, including the elimination of non-woven fabrics to enhance the foam core’s direct contact with silicone, and optimizing the material pouring techniques. These adjustments led to a more uniform skin texture and reduced discrepancies between the skeleton and inner core, achieving a significant weight reduction while maintaining softness.

With the introduction of W.R. 4.0, Starpery has made remarkable strides in reducing the weight of their dolls — the 172 body model saw a reduction from over 35kg to 29kg, and the 151 model from 25kg to approximately 19kg. Moreover, the overall softness of the silicone dolls was enhanced, surpassing even that of TPE dolls in terms of both surface and internal softness.

Looking to the Future

Despite the successes in the laboratory, transitioning these advancements to mass production has presented its own set of challenges, notably in maintaining low defect rates. Nonetheless, Starpery’s commitment to continuous improvement and innovation remains unwavering. The introduction of W.R. 4.0 marks just the beginning of a new era for Starpery and the sex doll industry at large, with plans to extend these advancements to other models and integrate additional features such as heating and sound effects.
